Dave: Not to be misunderstood, the "steam engine" in this song is a metaphor for the fast paced, consumer driven, modern American lifestyle that has left so many disenfranchised. I love trains, especially old historic, coal burning railways like the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge rail. I also have a property in mexico that I like to escape to whenever I can. So this is sort of a theme song of escapism.
